Kennedy High School is committed to academics. We work diligently to encourage all students to complete the most rigorous course load they can manage. Our faculty is knowledgeable and dedicated to the learning of all students. We have high expectations and we provide meaningful learning in all of our courses. Our goal is to make students’ learning matter!
A number of co-curricular activities as well as enrichment opportunities are available at Kennedy High School. From more than a dozen vocal ensembles, a half dozen band and several string orchestra ensembles from which to choose to fabulous theater and speech team opportunities available to all. Added to those are twenty-one athletic teams, a nationally competitive dance team and numerous cheer squads. We have a no-cut policy for our athletic teams, providing opportunities for all. Many academic teams are available as well, including Academic Decathlon, Debate, Chess and Math Team, Mock Trial, Science Bowl, and competitive speech teams. Nearly thirty clubs are available for students to join and more clubs are formed annually. Students at Kennedy can choose from 27 AP courses. Our school offers more AP courses than any other single high school in Iowa. And our students excel in AP, taking more exams than any other school and earning higher scores. Beyond AP, students can dabble in business, pre-engineering, art and technology. Our journalism program earns national recognition in both our student newspaper and yearbook.
Community members are valuable assets to our school. Our PTA, Athletic Booster Club, and Foundation of Performing Arts board meet each month. They provide unending support for our academic efforts, our athletic program, and our visual performing arts. In addition, many individual sports have support groups and music programs offer membership in their individual support groups. The groups are open to everyone and are essential in the success of Kennedy High School.
