Athletic Scholarships

 

 ANN GRIFFEL SCHOLARSHIP

 

Award: $2000

 

Deadline: March 13

Eligibility:  

  • Girls of excellent character
  • Girls who meet entrance requirements at any accredited higher learning institute in the state of Iowa
  • Girls who accurately and completely fill out the application form
  • All Iowa high school girls are eligible to apply
  • All applicants must be intending to graduate from high school in the year of application (this could be either spring graduation or graduation at half year)
  • Applicant must meet entrance requirements and plan to enroll at any accredited state or private school in Iowa
  • This award is made for the freshman year of college only and does not repeat as new winners will be selected each spring from among the applicants of that year
  • If winners do not attend college in the fall following high school graduation, an alternate candidate will be selected
  • If winners do not attend an accredited state or private school in the state of Iowa, an alternate candidate will be selected  
  • The $2,000 scholarships will be paid to the registrar of the university or college ($1,000 will be paid for college expenses at the beginning of the fall and spring semester or term)  
  • Announcements of the scholarship winners will be made at the time of the Iowa Junior Girl's Championship in June of each year.

HERMAN SANI SCHOLARSHIP

 

Award: $8000 ($2000 for 4 years)

Eligibility: 

  • Any graduating high school senior and resident of the State of Iowa with experience or background in golf is eligible to apply. 
  • Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities, not on golf accomplishments or ability. Scholarships are awarded and recipients are selected solely on the basis of the written application.

Iowa PGA Section Charlie Burkart Scholarship

 

Award: $1,000 for 4 years

Eligibility:
  • Any graduating high school senior who is a resident of the state of Iowa and western Illinois (a part of the Iowa Section PGA) is eligible to apply. 
  • Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need.

Edna Barrett Jackson Award (voice) Amount $500

Open to any high school senior attending school in Linn County accepted to any accredited

college, university or conservatory, and who will be earning credits in voice.

Phoebe Sherman Haman Award (Coe) Amount $500

Open to any student from the state of Iowa who plans to enroll or is currently enrolled at Coe

College and who will be earning credits in applied music.

Beethoven Club Tribute Award (instrumental) Amount $500

Open to any high school senior attending school in Linn County accepted to any accredited

college, university, or conservatory, and who will be earning credits in instrumental music.

Lucy Ambroz Keyboard Award Amount $500

Open to any high school senior attending school in Linn County accepted to an accredited

college, university or conservatory, and who will be earning credits in keyboard (piano,

harpsichord, organ).

Applications and Auditions

Applications must be emailed or postmarked on or before Saturday, January 11, 2014.

Auditions for all awards will be held 1:00-5:00 pm Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Christ

Episcopal Church, 220 40th St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.

Audition time is limited to ten minutes.

Students may compete for one award only.

Memorization will not be required. However, judges will award extra points for

memorization.

Contestants must bring an extra set of original music for the judges; copies will not be

accepted.

Recording of the auditions is not allowed. Only judges and timekeeper are allowed in the

audition room.

Beethoven Club reserves the right to withhold any or all awards if performances are deemed

to be below an acceptable level of achievement.

Cedar Rapids Realtor Scholarship

 

Award: $500 scholarships

  • Applicants must apply and be admitted to an accredited University, College, Community College, Trade School or school of Higher Learning in the state of Iowa.

  • Applicant must have attended a Linn County High School and be a citizen of the United States.
  • Money awarded is given directly to student upon verification that the student is registered full time for the second semester.

  • FFBC awards annual scholarships to outstanding Iowa high seniors who fight homophobia and educate their schools and/or communities about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities and community involvement also factor into the awards.
  • Applicants must be Iowa residents and plan to pursue post-secondary education. 
  • There is no restriction on the type or location of the institution where post-secondary education is obtained.

Iowa Scholarships

 

 

All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant

 

Award: Grant amounts vary and usually range from $2,300 - $8,569 per year

Application: Iowa Financial Aid Application  & Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

 

Eligibility:

  • Be an Iowa resident
  • Be under the age of 18 and currently in licensed foster care under the care and custody of the Iowa Department of Human Services of Iowa Juvenile Court Services, and will remain in placement to within 30 days of his or her 18th birthday.
  • Be under the age of 18 and currently under Juvenile Court order to live with a relative or suitable person, and will remain in placement to within 30 days of the student's 18th birthday.
  • Be currently between the ages of 18 and 23, and previously in one of the living situations described above until the age of 18.
  • Have completed the annual Iowa Financial Aid Application and be eligible and awarded.
  • Have been in Iowa foster care and was legally adopted after the age of 16. Student will be under the age of 23 on the day he or she begins college.
  • Be currently or previously under Juvenile Court order to reside at the State Training School or Iowa Juvenile Home until the age of 18 and will be under the age of 23 on the day he or she begins college.

Award: The 2015-2016 maximum award is $7,885

Eligibility:
  • Graduate with the class of 2014

  • Enroll for at least 3 semester hours (or the trimester or quarter equivalent) in a program leading to an undergraduate degree

  • Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $7,853 or lower from the 2014-15 FAFSA

  • Must be pursuing programs of study in any field of agriculture or natural resources.  This is a broad field.  A marine biologist is just as qualified to apply as someone wanting to pursue animal science.

Award: $2,600 scholarship

  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or home school diploma
  • Be a GEAR UP Iowa Program participant, as certified by GEAR UP Iowa staff at Iowa College Aid
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Be under the age of 22 upon first receipt of Scholarship funds
  • Enroll in at least 3 semester hours (or trimester or quarter equivalent) in an eligible Title IV undergraduate program of study* at a Title IV college/university** in Iowa or out-of-state
  • Complete a FAFSA each year to receive Scholarship funds

Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education Scholarship

 

Award: $2,000

Eligibility:
 
  • Applicants must be committed to the pursuit of automotive or truck-related studies, such as technician training, body shop/collision repair, diesel, new vehicle sales, parts sales, accounting, or business administration.  The IAD reserve the right to rescind a scholarship award if the student fails to maintain enrollment in these types of studies prior to receiving the scholarship.
  • The Foundation’s selection committee will base its decision on the student’s interest and commitment to the automotive industry.  An applicant’s interest will be measured by their enrollment in automotive related studies (including business and accounting), being a current or prior employee of a new car or truck dealership, or demonstrating a personal interest in automobiles.
  • Scholarships may be awarded, in part, on financial need.

Award: The maximum grant for priority recipients is the average resident tuition rate at Iowa Regent Universities; the maximum grant for non-priority recipients is $1,000 per year for up to four years of full-time, undergraduate study (adjusted for less than full-time enrollment).

Award: Maximum individual awards cannot exceed the current average resident tuition rate at Iowa Regent Universities. National Guard officials have determined that they will be able to pay 100 percent of the average regent tuition rate for the 2013-14 academic year, an amount of $6,658. The Iowa Adjutant General determines eligibility.

Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarships

 

Award: The amount of each Iowa Journalism Institute scholarship is based on IJI endowment fund earnings and will be determined in early 2016.

Carter Pitts Scholarships

The Le Mars Daily Sentinel funds an annual Carter Pitts scholarship in the amount of $500. The scholarship is named for the Daily Sentinel's longtime publisher/owner. The late Carter Pitts was also the first president of the Iowa Newspaper Foundation and the organization's first professional fundraiser.

 

In addition, the Carter Pitts Scholarship Endowment Fund generates an annual scholarship. The amount of the award will be determined in early 2016.

 

INF Scholarships

The Iowa Newspaper Foundation will award scholarships to Iowa students preparing for an Iowa newspaper career at in-state colleges or universities.

 

Woodward Scholarship

Funded by a contribution from Woodward Communications, Inc. An annual scholarship award will go to a student studying journalism, communications, mass communications, photojournalism, graphic design, marketing or public relations at a college or university in Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin. The amount of each Woodward scholarship will be based on fund earnings and will be determined in early 2016.

 

Shaw Scholarship

Funded by a contribution from Shaw Newspapers. An annual scholarship award will go to an incoming college freshman preparing for a journalism or communications career at an accredited two or four-year college or university in the United States. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are dependents of men or women who work for Iowa newspapers. The amount of each Shaw scholarship will be based on fund earnings and will be determined in early 2016.

 

Iowa Journalism Institute Scholarships

Funded by a contribution from Michael Gartner and Gary Gerlach of Des Moines the IJI annually awards scholarships to up to two students enrolled in Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. These scholarships are given in the name of the late David W. Belin, longtime business partner of Gerlach and Gartner.

 

 

Eligibility:

  • The INF Scholarship Committee, when reviewing applications, will consider all applications that qualify for each of the scholarships offered. It is not necessary to apply for a specific scholarship award. 
  • Application forms are sent to all high school guidance offices in Iowa and can also be obtained from the Iowa Newspaper Foundation. 
  • The postmark deadline for applications for 2015-2016 scholarships is February 13, 2016. Awards will be announced before May 1, 2016. All applicants will be notified by mail.
  • Proceeds for all scholarships awarded by the Iowa Newspaper Foundation will be paid directly to the college or university. Each scholarship granted will be for the upcoming academic year and not on an ongoing basis. Students, however, may apply for and may qualify for scholarships in subsequent years.
