About PACT

WHAT IS THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR ACADEMIC AND CREATIVE TALENT?

The senior high school Program for Academic and Creative Talent offers specialized guidance services to academically talented students.  These services include:  career counseling, profiling vocational interests and personal strengths, and facilitating academic planning during and after high school.

The Cedar Rapids curriculum provides abundant opportunities for academic challenge and enrichment through higher level classes, including those in the Advanced Placement program.

WHO BENEFITS FROM THE PROGRAM FOR ACADEMIC AND CREATIVE TALENT?

High school students often need assistance in clarifying possible career paths and locating suitable, affordable higher education.  Since highly able students usually have numerous interests, or intense, long-term interests that influence their life planning, they will benefit from the decision-making focus provided by the Program for Academic and Creative Talent guidance services.

HOW ARE STUDENTS IDENTIFIED?

Several subjective and objective criteria are used to identify academically gifted students for the Program for Academic and Creative Talent.  Achievement and intelligence test scores are reviewed prior to placing students in appropriate activities. To be selected, a student must score 92% or better on the Core Composite the previous year on the Iowa Assessments OR 95% or better in Math Total, Reading Total or Science Total. Students who are selected for PACT remain in PACT for their high school career.

HOW DO I PROCEED?

If your student is selected for PACT, they must complete a survey about what activities they are interested in. You will receive a postcard in the mail with further instructions. As a parent, you can provide valuable insights and information about your child's exceptional abilities.

Mission Statement
